When purchasing upright monuments, there are three things to consider: the type, materials, and costs. Summit Memorial’s team of experts is ready to help you discover which upright monument is best for your loved one!
Simply give us a call or stop by the office. But in the meantime, here’s what’s important to know.
The three types of monuments we sell are pillow, flat marker, and upright. They all have unique qualities that should be considered before you settle on the right one. If you are looking for a monument that is raised from the ground and has better visibility, given our snowy climate – an upright monument is for you!
For better compatibility and informed decision-making, you can also have a look at our pillow monuments and flat markers.
The standard type of upright monument is called a serp top, indicating the curved top of the monument. Another common type of shape our customers often select is a double heart which works wonderfully for a companion monument.
With that said, technology these days now allows Summit Memorials to produce virtually any shape you could imagine. You can talk with our skilled designers to determine the perfect design. You are only limited by your imagination.

Once you’ve chosen which shape of a headstone is best for your loved one, the next thing to consider is the material. Typically, upright monuments are made from granite. Other materials include marble and stainless steel. We can even add a bronze attachment to one of those materials if you wish.
It is worth noting that the preferred material for upright monuments is granite as it is more durable than the others. Marble, for example, is a softer stone. But perhaps you prefer the look of marble over granite.
One way to ensure the longevity of your loved one’s monument, regardless of its material, is to have it routinely cleaned by a professional monument company that can provide reliable monument cleaning services.
Different materials have different looks and different levels of durability. Not sure what material you want? Our experts can walk you through the look, feel, and aesthetic of the various materials in our showroom, or you can browse our website.
Costs are determined by a variety of factors, including the material, size, shape, and number of polished surfaces.
Any inscription or design on the front of the monument is included in the cost of the chosen stone. One thing to keep in mind regarding text is that the more lettering you want to see on the monument, the smaller we will have to make the font to ensure it fits. Additional text on the back is not included in the standard cost.
Additional items may be added, including dura photos, vases, and a glass inlay.
These are just some of the many things to consider when picking headstones for graves. Feel free to browse our website and reach out to us so we can get working on the perfect upright monument for your loved one.
